About Bay Pottery

The McMichael Family, founders of Bay Pottery, have been making pottery for over thirty years. Our home and studios in the legendary Shenandoah Valley of Virginia are the fulfillment of a life’s dream. Working as a family on the creative projects we enjoy, we bring you innovative works in reduction high fired porcelain. At Bay Pottery we mix our own clay and lead-free glazes from recipes carefully formulated over the years. Bay’s unique functional designs are high fired to 2300 degrees F, making them sturdy, dense, oven safe and dishwasher safe. Throughout a twelve hour up firing our kilns are carefully tended to achieve the beautiful reduction glazes for which Bay Pottery is known.

Recently we have begun handcrafting CandlePots, exclusive copyrighted designs created by Joe McMichael. These are unique candle holders which are formed in various shapes and sizes. Today the CandlePots Collection has over fifty different designs. All CandlePots sizes are durable and non-porous so they will not absorb water or stains. When the candle is burning the CandlePot should lie flat. When not in use, the CandlePot may be displayed standing as an attractive mini-sculpture.
